Susan Tesch' Blackberry Cobbler

2 pkgs of our frozen blackberries 1 cup milk
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice 1/3 cup butter, softened
2 cups unbleached all purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder
¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg 1 tsp salt, divided
¼ tsp ground mace 2 tbsp cornstarch
½ tsp vanilla extract 1 ½ cup boiling water
3 cups sugar, divided (or to taste)

Preheat oven to 350.  Spread blackberries in a 9x13x2 baking dish.  Drizzle
with lemon juice.  In medium bowl combine flour, nutmeg, mace, vanilla, 1 ½
cups sugar, milk, butter, baking powder and ½ tsp salt.  Spoon over berries
and spread in even layer.  In small bowl combine remaining sugar, cornstarch
and remaining salt.  Sprinkle over cobbler.  Pour boiling water evenly over
top.  Bake 1 hour or until golden brown and shiny.  Check often for bubbling
over.  I place an old tin pan under the baking dish to catch the drips.
